FAQs
Is refinancing actually worth it?
It can be. A lower rate, reduced repayments or better loan features could make refinancing worthwhile, but it depends on your current loan and circumstances. We’ll compare the numbers and help you work out whether refinancing actually makes sense for you.
How much could I save by refinancing?
That depends on your loan balance, current interest rate, the rate you could qualify for and any costs involved in switching. Even a small rate difference can add up over time, so we’ll crunch the numbers and show you what refinancing could mean for your repayments.
Use our mortgage repayment calculator to find out how your repayments could change with a better rate/different loan term.
Does refinancing cost anything?
There can be costs involved, such as discharge, application, valuation or government fees, depending on the lenders and your situation. We’ll factor these into the comparison so you can see whether the potential benefit of refinancing outweighs the cost of switching.
Can I ask my bank for a better rate instead?
Absolutely. Refinancing doesn’t always mean changing lenders. Sometimes knowing what competitors are offering can put you in a stronger position to negotiate with your current bank. We can help you compare both options.
How much equity do I need to refinance?
It depends on the lender and your circumstances. Having at least 20% equity can give you access to more options and may help you avoid Lenders Mortgage Insurance, but having less than 20% doesn’t automatically rule refinancing out. A broker can look at your numbers and see what may be available.
How long does refinancing take?
It varies between lenders and depends on how straightforward your application is. As a general guide, refinancing can take a few weeks from application through to settlement. We’ll manage the process with you and keep you updated along the way.
